Recon Team Aleph - Saint Squad

Urazel ‘Saint’ Braxxis
- Scout sergeeant, Aleph team leader
Urazel is the veteran scout sergeant leading recon team Aleph. This dour warrior rarely smiles ever since his miraculous recovery of five mortal wounds he suffered on Perphon IV. The injuries suffered that day have coined his callsign, being wounded in roughly the same places as the five martyr wounds of Saint Orphina, but the scars from these wounds cause him a constant pain that destroyed the last of him humour. His bravery and calculated planning earn him constant respect from those he leads and his experience as a veteran scout make him an great team leader for special operations.

Armael ‘Big Boss’ Durmod

- Reiver Sergeant
‘Big Boss’ is big, even for a primaris space marine, but even though he holds the rank of sergeant and he’s the biggest marine in team Aleph he is not the boss. Saints expertise and experience far outstrips the Reiver Sergeant. Armael was selected for his great stealth tactics and brutal close-quarter fighting skills. Many a sentry has died with a Armaels giant combat blade through it’s vitals. Often the boom of Armael’s heavy bolt pistol is the signal for team Aleph to go weapons-hot.

Hektor ‘Heck’ Chaveres
- Scout gunner
Hektor was born the sixth son of a pious noble family and the fact he never uses strong language is due to his upbringing. That is why his fellow scouts love to shorten his name to ‘Heck’. There is no disrespect, as Hecks heavy bolter has more than once saved his brothers from being overrun. Hektor himself is a very religious man, and his xenophobia has only increased since his induction into the Dark Angels. He even eyes his primaris brothers with suspicion.

Yraneas ‘Click’ Arzarzel

- Scout sniper
Yraneas has been in 10th company for only two years, but already he has distinguished himself as an excellent marksman under the tutelage of Urazel. Many sentries and officers have died from a well-placed shot from Yraneas. His habbit of muttering “click” after a good kill has earned him his callsign. ‘Click’ still has a lot to learn before he can progress to full battle brother, his enthusiasm for killing the enemies of the Imperium sometimes taking over when a shot should have been held back.

Dareas ‘Monkey’ Toothborn
- Tactical Sergeant
Hailing from the desert tribes of Attilla, Dareas was named Toothborn when he was born with two teeth already visible. His rise through the ranks of the Dark Angels to 5th company sergeant isn’t particularly noteworthy, but the monniker ‘Monkey’ is. During a boarding action on an Drukhari vessel Dareas fought his way through a number of Drukhari crewmen before becoming surrounded. With only five rounds left in his bolter, he lowered his weapon and he was quickly surrounded by aliens with their weapons trained on him. Their leader spoke to Dareas, calling him monkey the entire time. While the alien spoke, Dareas made quick calculations and noted the position of the aliens around him. When he was ready, he brought up his boltgun and pirouetted around, pulling the trigger as calculated, blowing five of the aliens off their feet is the space of second, breaking the sixth aliens neck with the thrown empty boltgun. Out of joking respect, his squadmates started calling him Monkey, just like the alien leader had done so foolishly. Dareas doesn’t mind, he just loves doing the Emperor's work and is always in for a joke about slaughtering aliens and heretics. Nothing seems to get his good humour down and Dareas is well-loved amongst his brothers, except for Urazel who’s dour nature often clashes with him.

Ramazoviel ‘Rambo’ Boondike
- Reiver
Called Rambo because his first name is not practical for vox contact, Ramazoviel is an aggressive man, hailing from tribal background where conflict between tribes was fought in makeshift gladiator duels between the sons of chiefs. His coöperation with Armael is no coincidence, Saint hoping that the experienced Reiver sergeant can teach Ramazoviel some restraint. Even so, Rambo is a fighter with few equals in the chapter, his aggressive style with lack of self-preservation reminding some more of a Blood Angel than a Dark Angel.

Sabbat-Lysander-Horus-Yarrick 'Sly' Jonson
- Intercessor gunner
Sly was born the son of a poor family with high hopes for their son. Naming him, unpractically, after three of the Imperiums best-known heroes and unwittingly after its most hated enemy, his childhood was spent working hard to keep his belly fed and at the age of 10 he joined a gang run by the ecclesiarchy to combat heretic and lawless gangs. After his induction into the Dark Angels Sabbat-Lysander-Horus-Yarrick took the name Sly to remove the Archbetrayer from his name. Sly was selected by Saint for his excellent marksmanship and the tactical flexibility of his Bolt Rifle with grenade launcher, and because he is known as the strongest marine in the chapter, never beaten in contests of strength since his elevation to full battle brother. Sly is a light-hearted warrior, not something associated with the Dark Angels, and he is often found with ‘Monkey’, joking, training or gaming between missions.

-3 to hit, maar 6 is altijd raak. 4 zessen, alles raak. Eindresultaat, 1 wound, 1 save, niks dus.
Stealth suit schiet met fusion gun. Raak. 2+ to wound. 1....

Big Boss edged forward amongst the crates to get a different angle. His instinct told him to keep moving and hunt the genestealers, but Saint's orders were clear. The leader of hunt-squad Aleph had told them to get in position and stay there, confident that their presence in the 'stealers territory would not go unnoticed. Despite Saint's confidence that the 'stealers would come to hunt them, the last 82 minutes had revealed no movement. Behind the big Reiver, scouts Hector and Click were covering the approaches to their position with their heavy bolter and sniper rifle, while Dareas was keeping his eyes locked on his auspex array, scanning for life-signs.

On the other end of the loading dock Saint quietly shifted his weight around to ease the pain in his left hip. It wouldn't help much, but the slight movements from time to time prevented his painfull old wounds from stealing his concentration. To his right crouched Ramazoviel, Rambo for short. Saint hoped the impetuous reiver would be able to hold his position for long enough to give the team a chance to use their firepower against the genestealers. To his left, Saint could make out the crouching form of Sly, the intercessors bolt-rifle panning left and right slowly. They both looked imposing, giant demigods in battle armour, even towering over their brothers, but amongst these human-sized surroundings they were truly giants and Saint had a momentary thought that this must be how mortals viewed normal space marines.

"Contact, three, 102 meters, 348, rapid approach", Dareas voice wispered over the vox. Finally, they had taken the bait. Saint saw Ramazoviel edge forward in anticipation. "Hold position, fire on sight, hunt well" replied Saint, to his annoyance he saw Ramazoviel take another step forward before crouching down behind some barrels. The reiver lacked experience fighting these xenos, that was obvious. There is no hunting genestealers like normal enemies. They are faster, can hide everywhere and if they catch you unawares you are as good as dead. No, this calls for patience and firepower.

Flickers of movement, so fast a man might discard them as figments of his imagination, appeared between the cargo containers. A few moments later the first genestealers were sprinting from cover to cover, always getting closer. Seconds after Hector's heavy bolter coughed it's distinctive
single pop of a Hellfire shell. Guided by sensor input from Dareas the round exploded the ground just in front of a genestealer, splattering the creature with razor shards and hellfire toxins. There was no sound from the creature as it crashed to the ground from its sprint and started to dissolve, flailing ineffectively with its arms. Only seconds later, other Ramazoviel opened up with his pistol while moving right to get a better angle around a cargo container.

"Moving forward", Bigboss called, taking Hector, Click and Dareas with him to try to get an angle on five genestealers circling around a container to get to Saint, Rambo and Sly. Heck's second salvo rang out and Bigboss could see one of the shells clip a big genestealer and blow off one of its arms before it vanished out of sight. He didn't have time to give a new order as another genestealer came charging around a corner only 10 meters away and it was on him before he could get a shot at it. He barely dodged the first strike, and felt claws rip chunks of meat from his side before he could even get a swing at it. In response he stamped down on the genestealers foot with his armoured boot and carved his combat blade through the beasts head and torso in a vertical strike, relying more on his strength to drive the blade through than the edge of the weapon.

Saint saw another two genestealers rush into the cover of the big container and he knew what was coming. "Retreat, keep overwatch" he called, before sprinting to new cover to get more distance between himself and the beasts. Sly and Rambo didn't get a chance to do the same, four genestealers rushing out of cover at the two primaris marines. Sly caught the first with a masterfull shot to the torso with a frag grenade, blowing the alien apart as soon as it came into view, but the other three seemed unfazed and closed the distance to quickly. Hecks heavy bolter blew one apart from the other side of the dock, while Ramazoviel's heavy bolt pistol downed another. The last one leapt at Ramazoviel, ripping its claws through chestarmour and flesh before Sly joined the fray and kicked the beast aside, giving his brother enough time to blow it apart at point blank range.

On the other side of the dock a last genestealers charge was met by Bigboss and Dareas standing side by side. It's attacks proved ineffective against the prepared warriors who in turn flanked the creature and cut it to pieces with chainsword and combat blade. Silence would have descended then but for the sounds of reloading pistols and idling chainswords. Team Aleph regrouped, checking scanners and weapons tracking possible routes. "I see one blib moving away from us, almost out of auspex range" called Dareas. "Must be that big one I saw with its arm blown off", added Bigboss.

Saint checked on Ramazoviel and Bigboss's injuries, seeing they could continue to fight for a while before needing treatment. A succesfull mission, but with one escaped genestealer this wasn't over. Rolling his shoulder to ease the lingering pain in his shoulderblade, he keyed his comm unit, "Now, we hunt"

Leuke pot in ieder geval!

Kill team Aleph advanced wearilly, guns panning left and right, in close formation. T’au were supposed to be in this area and any Imperial citizens had abandoned the surrounding buildings. Imperial hydra’s had managed to damage a T’au ship flying through the area resulting in it’s crash in this district, and it was believed that vital data could be gathered from the crash site. Team Aleph had been the first to respond, taking just under two hours to get this close. The dust had settled by now, but small fires were still burning were flammable pieces had landed.

Big Boss and Boon were taking point when the Dareas suddenly noted the blips on his auspex. ‘Contact, close! Scatter!’, voxed the sergeant. Sly and click dove to the left, into a building completely ruined by the crashing aircraft. Saint ran right with Dareas and Hector, suddenly spotting the blurred forms of stealth-suits with camo-fields moving across the small plaza. The vox exploded with enemy sightings, Click reporting a sniper on the roof, Dareas and Hector both spotting drones and warriors moving into the ruins on the right flank. Both reivers sprinted forward, pressing flat against the wall of the big building on the left of the plaza. The ruins on the right lit up with burst cannon fire, trying to track the sprinting reivers but not scoring any hits.

Big Boss scaled the wall of the large building, going for the sniper on the roof while Boon sprinted forward along the building and ducking into a doorway halfway towards the T’au lines. Both forces opened fire on each other, but range and cover made accurate targeting hard. Big Boss however had no cover from the sniper he tried to approach and as soon as he reached the roof of the building the sniper hit him full in the chest with a rail-rifle shot, sending him tumbling backwards off the building either dead or seriously injured. Hector managed to line up a shot with his heavy bolter on another T’au sniper but when he pulled the trigger a large drone hove into view and the hit only managed to blow off a few armour plates. The return fire hammered into the ruins, a stray shot knocking Hecktor off his feet. Just a flesh wound to his chest, but in still hurt like hell.

Boon voxed from the building, having found a significant piece of debris and furiously trying to uncouple memory cores from a damaged terminal before the T’au moved in. Sly also reported having found what looked like a xenos data-slate and other debris. On the right flank, Sly tried to hold off a stealth-suit and drone while Click gathered anything of value from the site. The vox resounded with Sly’s chatter, a constant litany of small curses and demeaning jokes leveled at the xenos trying to kill him.

Meanwhile, Boon came under fire from a stealth suit and a missile pod, shots ridling his armor and blasting a chunk out of his thigh, until Dareas and Hector gave some covering fire. Saint analysed the situation, noting that while they were in possession of a few key pieces already, they needed more, and Boon needed support. Moving up himself to lend some support Saint noticed a heap of data-pads right near the T’au lines, stacked for removal by a nearby fire warrior.

Taking swift action Saint rushed forward, headshotting the fire warrior before grabbing the stash of data-pads. Behind him he heard the loud boom of a heavy bolt pistol firing, but before he could look out for the threat the headless body of a T’au sniper dropped next to him. The sniper must have switched position to get a better shot, but Boon had expertly blown the xenos’ head off through a hole in the ceiling.

Under Dareas’ expert auspex guidance, Hecktor was providing covering fire but his heavy bolter felt very ineffective. Every time a though he had a good shot lined up the drones surrounding the T’au warriors swooped in and the shells bounced off them. His irritation getting the better of him, be opened up on a stealthsuit flanking Saint and Boon and just emptied the magazine completely, saturating the area with high-explosive shells. As he reloaded he was rewarded by seeing the nearby drone going haywire from the impacts, crashing full-speed into the ground, and the stealthsuit behind it desperately recovering from a spin as one of it’s legs had been severed.

As Saint gathered up the stack of data-pads he noticed the damaged stealth suit to his left retreating before the sustained fire of Hectors heavy bolter. Taking this que, he voxed the order to fall back to team Aleph. The T’au might not give them long before pressing the attack again and with Big Boss down and multiple injuries across the team this was a perfect moment to withdraw with the datacores and pads they had recovered. ‘Aleph, fall back to staging point Terros’.

---

Dareas and Click dropped Big Boss’ body to the ground. Click was sweating profoundly. Without powered armour in had been a tough walk carrying the giant reivers body back to their staging area. Saint had his right arm in a makeshift sling, his biceps damaged beyond use. Boons armour looked like a cheese-grater and multiple holes had dried blood around them. Sly’s armour was looking only slightly less damaged but his hip was seriously damaged and he couldn’t move the joint, giving him a painful limp, and Hectors chest was still weeping blood every time he moved. Big Boss was still unconscious tough, his chestplate completely cracked by the supersonic steel ball that had hit him. After their first examination they concluded that his breastbone was snapped and a number of ribs were broken. Big Boss was functioning on one heart and his third lung, his body putting all effort into healing the damage done to him. He would live, but it would take some weeks before he would fight again.

----
