From the schadows comes the fire

From the shadows comes the fire

Heavy footsteps echo down the long corridor, rebounding from the dark shadows in the large recesses in the walls. The hard soles of combat boots made a sound on the adamantine floors like stone slabs falling. A sound perfect for a tomb. The sound reached the blastdoors at the end of the hall, and stopped, being replaced by the sound of machines scanning hands and inplants, and codes being punched in.

The doors open with a hiss of hydraulics and the approval of the machine-spirits. Human heads turn to watch from the enormous room beyond the doors, lights flashing on great computer pannels, mind-links buzzing with activity. A man dressed like an officer salutes, and speaks. 'Sir. We will be entering the Iaxl system in 20 minutes. Good thing to, our navigator is looking like hell after 39 hours of warp-travel.' Master Belial of the Deathwing looked sternly at the second-in-command of his flag-ship. Ignoring the lieutenants remarks completely, he settled his super-human body into his brown leather command chair and started reading the data from the past day from the various screens around him.

Fully 3 minutes later, he removed the screens and surveyed the human servants under his command. Only one other space marine was present on the bridge. Brother techmarine Remiel was standing inside a small force-field, repairing one of the windows of the bridge, which had melted somewhat in a battle 2 days earlier with a tyranid scouting vessel. One of their bio-mines had caught them off-guard before the blast-shield could be raised to cover the windows. Curtains were hung from the roof to prevent the human crew seeing the warp outside the ship, wrecking their minds.

Without a sound, but with a flash of orange-pink light, the battlebarge Celestia Mortis enteres real-space. It's reactor-engines flash into life, burning white-hot and slowly accelerating the miles-long spaceship further into the system of planets. From the darkness of outer space a cluster of white lights moved quickly to converge on the Celestia. Four frigates, three destroyes and a strike cruiser, all painted bonewhite, assumed escort formation around the battlebarge, flying through the firefield of the battlebarges mighty lances to signal friendly intend.

20 hours later

It is a sight to inspire holy terror into the heart of anyone with evil intend, and even in those with good intend. Thirty terminators, standing in half a circle, helmets under their arms, weapons not even armed. Bone-white. Blood red chapter symbols painted on their armour, company and campaign banners lining the walls of the battlechapel behind them. The fleets commanding officers, in a half-circle opposite the deathwing terminators and the servants attending the meeting look in awe, even though some have seen sights like it many times before.

Belial strides into the circle, engaging the holographic projector build into the round granite table. A flickering lightblue image showes a number of planets around a white dwarf sun, slowly revolving, and a number of insignificant whtie, green and red dots in between, moving between the planets. Belial takes a few steps back, so everyone in the hall can take a look at the image. Then he speaks: 'This is the first system we encountered on our sweep, and it will be our first victory in this region.' A pause, and then he continues: 'We are the white dots, and we have identified the green dots as a small orc fleet heading for one of the planets. It's name is insignificant, and so is it's value to us, but we shall destroy the aliens as is our duty!' A mumble of approval comes from the assembled deathwing. 'We all know this enemy well, and we know they pose little threat if they are not allowed to spread. We will deploy by teleporter assault, and destroy them utterly on the ground, while our fleet will launch a raid on their hulk to prevent them an easy exit from our guns and hammers!' The assembled terminators roar their approval. Thirty bass voices crying for battle. Some of the human officers take an involuntary step back. Belial steps forward, and looks around the circle. 'Everyone knows his duty. Prepare for battle. For the Lion!'

'For the lion!!' roares the response from all in the chapel as Belial walks out of the room, the deathwing filing out behind him, thundering metal footsteps drowning out all other sound in the chapel. The officers are left behind to ponder their mighty lords, their angels of death.

mooi verhaaltje verder. Leest lekker weg.

Groene dots, het zijn orcs. ^_^ Roode dots voor objectives.

'Objectives matter, enemy's don't. Those will die anyway.'

Detecteren, spioneren, attackeren, laten kreperen. Wie die vijand van de onsterfelijke keizer is maakt een Space marine denk errug weinig uit.
